CUT
Cut refers to the shape of a diamond. Cut also will refer to the "make" of a diamond, specifically the round. Here are pictures of the ten most popular cuts.
COLOR
Color is the index used to measure the whiteness of a diamond. The color scale begins with the letter D (white) and goes down the alphabet to the letter Z (not white).
CLARITY
Clarity refers to how clear or how included the Diamond appears. Inclusions are natural blemishes on the surface or inside the diamond. Clarity grading is
based on magnification at 10x.
CARAT
Carat refers to the actual weight of a Diamond. Carats, just like pounds, are a unit of measure. There are 100 points in one carat. For example, you would call a side stone that weighs one-tenth of a carat a 10 pointer.
CERTIFICATION
Certification refers to the independent laboratory that certifies your diamond . The two most well known are the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the European Gemological Laboratory (EGL). A diamond certificate will include all the specifications of your Diamond.
