What Our Warranty Does Not Cover

What Our Warranty Does Not Cover

Jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed. Over time, even the finest jewelry will experience normal wear. Our manufacturing warranty does not cover normal wear, accidental damage, loss, theft, or damage resulting from misuse or environmental conditions.

Normal Wear

Normal wear occurs naturally over years of ownership and may include:

  • Scratches and surface wear
  • Worn or thinning prongs resulting from everyday wear
  • Bent rings
  • Worn ring shanks
  • Stretched bracelet or chain links
  • Loose settings caused by normal wear

Accidental Damage

Our warranty does not cover damage resulting from impact, misuse, or accidents, including:

  • Chipped, fractured, or broken diamonds or colored gemstones, whether natural or laboratory-grown
  • Bent or broken jewelry
  • Damage caused by dropping or striking jewelry against hard surfaces, even accidentally or unintentionally

Diamonds are the hardest natural material on Earth, but they are not indestructible. A significant impact at the wrong angle can chip or fracture even a diamond.

Loss or Theft

Our warranty does not cover:

  • Lost diamonds or gemstones
  • Lost earrings or jewelry
  • Theft
  • Mysterious disappearance

Chemical or Environmental Damage

Exposure to certain chemicals or environments may damage precious metals or gemstones, including:

  • Chlorine and swimming pools
  • Hot tubs
  • Bleach and household cleaners
  • Beauty products and cosmetics
  • Other harsh chemicals

We also recommend removing jewelry before activities such as weightlifting, yard work, home improvement projects, contact sports, or any activity where jewelry may experience significant impact.

Complimentary Lifetime Cleaning & Inspections

Complimentary Lifetime Cleaning & Inspections

We invite you to stop by anytime for complimentary professional cleaning and inspection.

During each visit, we'll examine:

  • Gemstones
  • Prongs and settings
  • Clasps and closures
  • Chains and bracelets
  • Overall condition of your jewelry

We recommend having your jewelry inspected approximately every six months, and at least annually.

Please don't wait if something feels different. If you notice a loose stone, bent prong, damaged clasp, or any change in how your jewelry feels or fits, stop wearing it and bring it to us as soon as possible. Addressing small issues early can often prevent more extensive repairs—or even the loss of a valuable gemstone.

Protecting Your Investment

A manufacturer's warranty protects against defects in craftsmanship—not life's unexpected events.

For engagement rings, custom jewelry, higher-value jewelry, luxury watches, and other significant pieces, we strongly recommend jewelry insurance through your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy, or through a specialty jewelry insurer such as Jewelers Mutual.

Jewelry insurance can help protect against accidental damage, loss, theft, and mysterious disappearance. Speak with your insurance professional to determine the coverage that best fits your needs.

Caring for Your Jewelry

A few simple habits can help your jewelry remain beautiful for generations:

  • Remove jewelry before physically demanding activities.
  • Avoid wearing jewelry while gardening or performing household repairs.
  • Remove jewelry before swimming in a pool or hot tub.
  • Keep jewelry away from bleach and harsh chemicals.
  • Store jewelry pieces separately to minimize scratching and damage.
  • Visit us approximately every six months for a complimentary inspection and professional cleaning.

Repairs Performed by Others

To help preserve the integrity of your jewelry, repairs or alterations performed by another jeweler may void this manufacturing warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Diamonds are incredibly hard, but they can chip if struck at the right angle with sufficient force. The girdle and pointed areas of certain diamond shapes—such as princess, pear, and marquise cuts—are typically the most vulnerable because they concentrate force during an impact.

Yes. Platinum, gold, and every precious metal will develop surface scratches through normal wear.

The primary difference is how they wear over time.

Gold gradually wears away. With each scratch, a microscopic amount of metal is removed. Over many years of everyday wear, this can eventually require ring shanks, channels, or other components to be rebuilt.

Platinum primarily displaces rather than wears away. When platinum scratches, the metal is pushed aside instead of being removed, so very little metal is actually lost over time. This displacement creates platinum's distinctive natural patina, which many owners appreciate for its soft, satin-like appearance.

Approximately every six months is ideal, and at least once a year at minimum. Of course, we encourage you to visit us sooner if you notice a loose stone, bent prong, damaged clasp, or any change in how your jewelry feels or fits.

While everyone's perspective on insurance is different, this is something we strongly recommend—especially for higher-value jewelry.

Insurance protects against accidental damage, theft, loss, and other events that are not covered under a manufacturing warranty.

A simple question to ask yourself is:

"If this piece disappeared tomorrow, would I be comfortable replacing it on my own?"

If the answer is no, jewelry insurance is well worth considering.
